I haven't been running much as of late. The cause: plantar facsilitis. It isn't that I can't run, it is that I can't run pain free. Thus I have relegated myself to riding the stationary bike and lifting (which is starting to get a tad redundant. Also, with the lack of running in my life I am noticing my weight slowly creep up on me. I'm not about to be asked to star as Fat Albert, but I think I would be up for the "Husky best friend" role in a movie.
That said, I have been doing exercises, foam rolling, wearing a ridiculous sock to bed at night that stretches my foot (Called the Strasburg Sock), and I even went to PT to get this figured out. Anyhow, today is National Running Day and all over my social media channels there is a barrage of "run this and run there and run the world" posts. Not that I was motivated by this, but I figured...today is that day (much like that Monster.com commercial where people of all ages, races, and genders start their first day of work)....yeah, that's how I felt about running today.
I laced up my Saucony Triumphs that hadn't been worn since this little race I ran in November, you may have heard of it, called the NYC Marathon. I slipped into them and I am not sure, but almost certain I heard the foam in the squeal out, "Heavier". I had to look around the apartment to make sure nobody else was here, but when on put on the left foot I heard the same "Heeeavier". Maybe it is all in my head.
Decided to go the treadmill route because
1. Softer surface
2. Could stop if my foot felt as if it was stepping on long, sharp spikes that might be seen on the hit show "Game of Thrones"
3. It would bring me to the gym where I could then hit my biceps (because it is beach season and one cannot be the husky guy with T-Rex arms at the Jersey Shore - a place I have been once, it simply isn't a good look)
I made it 24 minutes which is odd because a short 7 months ago I ran 26.2 miles and felt much better than I did today upon completion. I looked like I had just taken a shower and my heart rate was a low 227 which (and I'm no doctor, but I have dated one) I think is marginally elevated.
Here is the good news. Foot feels good, for now. At this moment.
Anyhow, I'm looking forward to getting back into Central Park and enjoying the picturesque hills and tribes of tourists so that I can curse while struggling up Harlem Hill and breath a sigh of relief as I coast down the west side.
Anyhow, happy National Running Day. I hope you were able to spend some of it outdoors.
